Terms & Conditions
By booking a rental with Hikomoto Limited, the customer agrees to the following Terms and Conditions.
1- Rental Agreement
The agreement is between the customer (the person renting) and Hikomoto Limited.
The customer is responsible for all rented equipment (bikes, helmets, locks, and accessories) from the start time of the rental until all equipment is returned and secured correctly.
Equipment must be returned: Clean, undamaged, and returned by the agreed time.
The customer agrees to complete a pre-start check of the bike with photos prior to use to check for previous damage.
2- Customer Responsibility
Customers must be at least 16 years old to rent a bike. Riders under 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult who assumes full responsibility.
The customer agrees to:
Use the equipment in a responsible manner.
Comply with all New Zealand cycling road rules.
Wear a helmet at all times (required by NZ law).
Secure the equipment using the provided lock when unattended.
Check the condition of the equipment before use and report any issues immediately
Monitor weather conditions and return equipment if unsafe or beyond skill level.
If the customer fails to secure the equipment and it is lost or stolen, they will be liable for full replacement costs.
3- Safety and Liability
The customer acknowledges that cycling and e-bike use carry inherent risks.
The customer rides at their own risk and is solely responsible for their own safety and that of any minors or dependents under their care.
Hikomoto Limited:
Is not responsible for personal injury, death, or accidents occurring during the rental period.
Accepts no liability for theft, loss, or damage to the customer’s personal property.
Is not liable for any damage or injury caused by the customer to third parties or property.
4- Equipment Use
Our e-bikes comply with NZTA regulations (maximum continuous power output 300W).
E-bikes are intended for sealed roads and designated cycle paths only — no off-road or beach use permitted.
Use of the equipment for racing, sub-rental, illegal activities, or while intoxicated is strictly prohibited.
5- Security Deposit, Damage Charges and Late Returns
A $350.00 NZD security deposit will be pre-authorised via Stripe prior to rental.
Upon return and inspection of the equipment, the security deposit will be released, less any applicable charges. The funds will be released into your bank account in 2-14 days.
In the event of damage beyond reasonable wear and tear, the customer agrees to pay for repair or replacement. Cost of damage(s) will be assessed upon your return.
In the event of a late return, the customer will be charged $45 per hour per bike.
6- Identification and Support
A valid form of photo ID may be requested before releasing equipment.
In the event of serious malfunction or an accident, stop using the equipment and contact us immediately.

7 - GPS Tracking
All rental e-bikes are equipped with GPS tracking devices for security, safety, and operational purposes. By agreeing to these Terms and Conditions, the customer acknowledges and consents to the presence and use of GPS tracking technology on the rented equipment. This tracking may be used to monitor location, ensure compliance with rental boundaries, assist in recovery in the event of loss or theft, and verify return times or usage patterns. Hikomoto Limited respects customer privacy and will not use GPS data for any purposes unrelated to the rental service.
8- Cancellation Policy
More than 24 hours before your booking: Full refund available via the cancellation link at the bottom of your confirmation email.
Less than 24 hours before your booking: No refund.
Inclement weather: If unsafe weather is forecast and we are notified before pick-up, a full refund will be issued. Please email or WhatsApp to request a weather-related cancellation.
Refunds are processed via Stripe and may take 2–10 business days to appear in your account.
9- Governing Law and Business Details
These Terms and Conditions are governed by New Zealand law. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of New Zealand courts.
